I posted a picture on Facebook today of my long suffering scrappy trip around the world quilt. This has been in the works for a little over a year, since it took the internet by storm last January. I fell in love with making these blocks out of scraps from previous projects. It was my first scrap quilt. It amazed me how people seemed to sew these together almost overnight. It took me a little longer. In the midst of it, I moved my sewing room which meant I had to organize my hoard of fabric. I cut a lot of strips from older fabric that was collecting dust. I kept making blocks, until someone said "maybe you should stop and sew these together". Lo and behold I had 49 blocks! When put together it came out to about 84" square. Not bad for scraps. The only problem, and it might not be a problem is that it's a little loud. Floyd calls it "busy". So I asked today "love or hate?". So far the response has been love. I'm still not sure.
The one thing I do love about it is all the bits and pieces from other quilts I have made over the years. It's cool to have a little remembrance of things from past projects. I do think I need more practice at the whole scrappy thing. It's hard for me to give up control of what color will be next to another.
I also quilted this baby quilt made with the Hex and More ruler. I give it's inventor a lot of credit. the geometry involved would make my head hurt, but she did all the work for you. You really just have to cut and sew, no thinking. I quilted it with a chevron pattern and it looked pretty cool when it was finished.
Winter is still hanging on with an iron grip here in the Northeast. Love it or hate it?
I love this tree. Years ago I told Floyd I wanted to photograph it in every season, but I never got winter. So now here is winter, just have to remember spring, summer, and fall.
This has been the most snow we have had in a long time. In between the storms it's been so cold not much has melted.
Floyd filled some feeders the other day and the birds found them today. Mr & Mrs Cardinal even made an appearance. I need a better telephoto lens for my camera, but Floyd thinks I have enough toys for now. He is right.
I put away all snowmen and winter quilts, spring colors are appearing in my house. I am willing away the cold. At least February is over!
